Jolanta Kwaśniewska’s Foundation „Communication without Barriers’’ since the beginning, tries to respond immediately to the surrounding reality by adjusting its program to the current social needs. Sensivity of the Foundress to the problems affecting Polish society makes that to this solid group of long existing programs join the new one. During many visits of the Foundress in hospitals, hospices and children health centers abroad, First Lady had an opportunity to get acquainted with living conditions of children hospitalized there, whose warmth, colour and friendly atmosphere seems to be the substitute of home.

The idea to create „Butterfly Hospitals” was to realize adults the existence of an unpleasant connotations associated with the white color in children’s minds, which automatically connect with pain, suffering and disease for them. The Foundation wanted to eliminate resistance of the youngest to make them to like the place, where they often spend weeks, months or even years of their childhood. When the elements of rainbow-colored, fairy-tale world were introduced to children hospitals, there was the sentence: “Color paint is more expensive than white”. We know that the success of treatment depends mainly on the psychological condition in which the child really is. We also know how little it takes to bring a smile to the child’s face to take his attention by something pleasant when he is sad and suffering.

The program is continued to this day. We encourage children’s hospitals, especially those that have oncology departments, to participate in the program. ,,Butterfly Hospitals for children” exist thanks to the generosity of our donors (companies, institutions, individuals) and the determination of a group of people organized around this issue – artists, nurses and parents. With this support we were able to paint more than 587 outlets on the amount of 2.943.508, 00 zł
